Fees review for Court and Tribunal services

Surprise! Fees are on their way up again. I have the dubious honour of being classed as one of the major stakeholders that may require a targeted consultation on the civil fees review. This is what their email says.

Consultation on civil fees

The government has asked the Ministry of Justice to review civil fees for Court and Tribunal services. Fees in civil jurisdictions have not been comprehensively reviewed since 2003, and are not currently set according to clear and consistent guidelines.

From the review we have developed a proposed framework for setting fees to help deliver a principled, consistent and equitable approach to fee setting and fee adjustments.

We have prepared a consultation paper containing the framework and fee proposals from our review. The consultation paper will be open for submissions from Tuesday 25 September and can be accessed from www.justice.govt.nz/services/court-fees.

We are seeking your views on both the framework for setting fees and the fee proposals. All feedback received will be used to help develop final proposals in early 2013 with finalised fee regulations and legislation to be published and come into effect in mid 2013.
